Review: Twice Tempted

Dating the Prince of Darkness has its challenges...
Leila's psychic abilities have been failing her, and now she isn't sure what the future holds. If that weren't enough, her lover, Vlad, has been acting distant. Though Leila is a mere mortal, she's also a modern woman who refuses to accept the cold shoulder treatment forever–especially from the darkly handsome vampire who still won't admit that he loves her.
Like choosing between eternal love and a loveless eternity...
Soon circumstances send Leila back to the carnival circuit, where tragedy strikes. And when she finds herself in the crosshairs of a killer who may be closer than she realizes, Leila must decide who to trust– the fiery vampire who arouses her passions like no other or the tortured knight who longs to be more than a friend? With danger stalking her every step of the way, all it takes is one wrong move to damn her for eternity.

My review:
4 hoots.

So, I love Jeaniene Frost and her books. They've been so good, but then this one came and I don't know..There was just so much wrong with it. It's hard to pin point exactly what it was, but it just wasn't as good as the previous one or even previous Frost books.
In the previous books Vlad is this funny guy who jokes around with Cat and even Bones and him get into these really funny fight because they "hate" eachother, let's not kid ourselves deep down they love eachother, but yeah this had none of that. It was all really Vlad the impaler. Like I know he has to be tough and all that, but I don't think it was this bad in the first book.
Let me just say to Vlad:

I miss his playful side :(

*spoilers* I wasn't even thrilled about their wedding or anything cause I just felt like... what is going on. So first he just lets her leave and get into all this trouble and when she comes back yeah let's get married now all of the sudden I can commit to you. And then the wedding.. I mean does he get happy about anything? Did he even smile in this book.
Why so evil Vlad!
And there was the opportunity to let him be that funny-ish guy I mean Bones and Cat were there for the wedding! And we have a bit of Cat in there, but no Bones, awww.. That's just sad.
Despite this I still like Leila as a character and she was herself, maybe even a bit more badass considering what she had to go through.
Another thing, I had this weird feeling with the book like I knew a lot was going on, but I just.. I felt like nothing was going on. I seems like the book was written in haste and I almost felt like I didn't even read an entire book, felt so short to me I don't know what it was.
*sigh*
I really hope the next one is better and this was just a leading up to it..

Quotes:

“If you introduce yourself to anyone as Mrs. Dracula, I'll bite you in a manner you won't enjoy.”
"This place stink."
"Did the guards forget to spray Febreze?" Vlad asked in mock indignation. Then he gave me a jaded look. "It s a dungeon, Leila. They re supposed to smell."
Mission accomplished. The stench might have actually killed my new appetite. If Hell could fart, it would smell like this.”
“Maximus grunted. "Some days you remind me of Vlad.""Meaning?" I said sharply."Your obsession with revenge. Next you'll want to drive a pole through that vampire once you find her."The thought was appealing, but...”

Review: What Really Happened in Peru by Cassandra Clare and Sarah Rees Brennan

 About the Book
There are good reasons Peru is off-limits to Magnus Bane. Follow Magnus’s Peruvian escapades as he drags his fellow warlocks Ragnor Fell and Catarina Loss into trouble, learns several instruments (which he plays shockingly), dances (which he does shockingly), and disgraces his host nation by doing something unspeakable to the Nazca Lines.

  My Thoughts
Magnus, Magnus, Magnus...

The first book of The Bane Chronicles, What Happened in Peru follows a few of my favorite warlock's adventures and shenanigans in Peru where Mr. Bane has his fellow warlocks Ragnor Fell and Catarina Loss along for the ride. The book takes us to Peru in 1791, 1885, 1890 and 1962.
In his journeys Magnus drags Ragnor on a rain forest adventure which wouldn't be complete without a monkey encounter before they end up on the high seas and another year the three warlocks end up as wanted criminals. We learn that Magnus took up the charango and meet one of his past lovers. Of course this wouldn't be complete without drunk Magnus and enchanted carpets (take from that what you will).
With all of Magnus' funny and serious moments you're in for a nice treat. A must-read for all Infernal Devices and Mortal Instruments fans!

 Favorite Quotes
"I thought it would be nice to start in the capital. Besides, I've been here before," Magnus said. "About fifty years ago. I had a lovely time, aside from the earthquake that almost swallowed the city."
"Did you have something to do with that earthquake?"
"Ragnor," Magnus reproached his friend. "You cannot blame me for every little natural disaster that happens!"

"I will find you," Ragnor told him. "I will find whatever chest of absurd clothes you have. And I will bring a llama into the place where you sleep and make sure that it urinates on everything you possess."

Moreover, I wish to assure both of you that I did not make any amorous advances on female monkeys." He paused and winked. "I didn't actually see any, so I never got the chance."

"Magnus, Ragnor, I heard a cat making a most unearthly noise," she exclaimed. "From the sound of it, the poor creature must be direly sick. You have to help me find it!"
Ragnor immediately collapsed with hysterical laughter on his windowsill. Magnus stared at Catarina for a moment, until he saw her lips twitch.
"You are conspiring against me and my art," he declared. "You are a pack of conspirators."

"Gracious," Magnus said. "I progressed to full hallucinations? It's official. That sounds like . . . almost the most drunk I have ever been. Please don't ask questions about the most drunk I have ever been. It's a very sad story involving a birdcage."

"Magnus tried to escape several times, and had to be forcibly restrained. Later Catarina and Ragnor liked to act out the time he tried to take the guinea pigs with him, reportedly shouting "Freedom!" and "I am your leader now."

Review: The Collector by Victoria Scott

Title: The Collector
Author: Victoria Scott
Series: Dante Walker #1
Publication: March 25th 2013 by Entangled Teen
Genre: Young Adult ~ Paranormal
Format: Paperback, 352 pages
Cover Rating: 5/5 (HOT DAMN!)
Overal Rating: 4/5

He makes good girls...bad.

Dante Walker is flippin’ awesome, and he knows it. His good looks, killer charm, and stellar confidence have made him one of hell’s best—a soul collector. His job is simple: weed through humanity and label those round rears with a big red good or bad stamp. Old Saint Nick gets the good guys, and he gets the fun ones. Bag-and-tag.

Sealing souls is nothing personal. Dante’s an equal-opportunity collector and doesn't want it any other way. But he’ll have to adjust, because Boss Man has given him a new assignment:

Collect Charlie Cooper’s soul within ten days.

Dante doesn't know why Boss Man wants Charlie, nor does he care. This assignment means only one thing to him, and that’s a permanent ticket out of hell. But after Dante meets the quirky Nerd Alert chick he’s come to collect, he realizes this assignment will test his abilities as a collector…and uncover emotions deeply buried.

~My Thoughts:

So. I've been eagerly expecting this book for months. Preordered it way months ahead because I wanted to be sure I'd get it. I felt like I needed to know what all the fuss about Dante Walker was. I mean, his name alone screams awesome! So I'm really glad this book and Dante did love up to my expectations.

Dante Walker. Do I have to say more? "He makes good girls... bad." Only that catchphrase alone is enough to make me swoon. This guy is like all of the popular hot, cocky, amazing guys from YA, like Daemon Black, Jace Wayland, Adrian Ivashkov, etc... combined. BUT The Dante is his own character all the same. There's no one like him and I doubt there will ever be one like him again. Like he said in the book, "he's got swag for days". Ain't that the truth!
He's the reason I kept on reading and reading.

I could go on and on about Dante Walker but he's not the only reason why I liked this book so much. You know, I'm usually not at all for angel/demon books. Mostly I really dislike them like say, Hush Hush or Sweet Evil but I really did like The Collector. I love the originality and the idea of Collectors and Liberators. So good! + male point of view will ALWAYS score points with me. I loved it!
I must also say, that it has been a joy reading this because lately with the books I've been reading after a while it turned into a drag but not with The Collector. Victoria Scott's writing was so totally awesome and fastpaced, every time I picked it up I read for a long time and never got bored.

I loved the side characters. My favorites were Max and Valery. Big love for them. And awww the cuteness there. I won't say anything else about it, I don't want to say too much. I probably already did though but just love, man. Love!
But really all of the side characters were great. Even when the story revolved around Dante and Charlie they made it extra cool. And can I just say I loved the way Annabelle and Blue were dressed for Halloween. If you read the book, you'll know what I'm talking about!

The romance was so surprising! I mean, I knew it was coming but I couldn't predict how. Charlie didn't start out as the most beautiful girl ever like most YA girls are. And yet I could slowly see Dante starting to like her more and more. No insta-love here. Thank god!
My favorite thing ever was how you can see Dante slowly changing (for the better). Charlie is so good for him. She brings out the best in him and I love him all the more for how in the he would sacrifice his life for hers. Beautiful romance!

Only slightly negative thing I can say is that I didn't like Charlie from the start. She was too good and pure and I was wondering how in the world Dante would be able to corrupt that girl but when I got to know her better I started to like her more, especially in the end. She got some courage!
So that's why it got 4 stars instead of 5 + I'm still not all to happy about an angel/demon book. I'll probably never will be. But oh well... it was good enough even so.

The end, oh my god the end. One of the best, nerve-wrecking endings ever, I swear! I was totally caught up in the danger and action and there were some serious twists there. Stuff I hadn't seem coming at all. Gotta love that in books! So yeah, I was pretty hooked on this book and Dante.
Can't wait for the next book!

The Collector by Victoria Scott is one amazingly surprising book covered in Awesome Sauce. A hot hero to make all girls melt into puddles of nothing but fangirlness but also lots of action and turn of events to keep the readers on their toes. If I were you I'd keep an eye on Victoria Scott's books. I'm sure this new YA author will dazzle us more in the future with her books.

Favorite Quotes:
I spin around and see Max running toward me in a gray Armani shirt. "Dante. Oh, Dante. Seal me! Seal me so hard!" He grabs my hips and pumps his toward mine. "Oh, Dante! You're so hot when you seal souls!"
I shove my idiot-of-a-best-friend off me and laugh.
I have the confidence of a killer whale, but being shot down by these losers stings.
Apparently Big Guy has become the new Voldemort, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.
Her quasi-smile blossoms. "I shouldn't be scared," she says, and it sounds like something between a statement and a question.
"You should be terrified," I say. Because I'm going to show you dance moves that'll have you begging for my shit.”

Welcome Post!

Hi everyone and welcome to our new review blog! =)

I created this blog because aside from my main blog, Bookfever, I wanted to have a little side blog for only reviews and one or two memes. So there won't be too many posts and mainly reviews. Since I love owls so much I decided to give it an owly edge. I also asked Jenn from Book Bird Reviews and Christina from Booksane to help me out and join as co-bloggers/reviewers. They said yes, so I'm really happy they're willing to do so. So again welcome and I hope you'll enjoy our little owl blog! <3

Howdy everyone! I'm very happy to be a part of this thanks to my co-blogger Stephanie. I can't wait to talk books and swoon over book boys.

Hello!
